Double Page Spread

In this corner, we have the spectacular J. Gonzo, artist and writer of "La Mano Del Destino", a comic set in a fictional 1960's Mexico about a supernatural luchador bent on revenge. He discusses all the thought and detail presented in the color and printing of this retro story, along with the history of Mexican wrestling, the importance of masks to identity, why we can't see the El Santo movies anymore, masculinity and machismo in Latino culture, and who gets to use Batman's weight room.

Check out "La Mano Del Destino" at www.castleandkeypublications.com

The second half of the episode is devoted to Martin Casaus, better known as "Marty the Moth" on the El Rey Network's popular show, "Lucha Underground". He talks about crafting his maniacal character, what makes "Lucha Underground" so much more plot driven than other wrestling shows, why wrestlers are such savvy vloggers, his injuries on WWE's "Tough Enough" encouraging people's fitness journeys and much more.

"Rock Candy Mountain" is a hilarious and action packed comic detailing the adventures of hobos, and talking to writer/artist Kyle Starks and colorist Chris Schweizer is equally fast paced. It's a delirious book packed with colorful characters that's part historical, part supernatural and always ridiculous. They break down the false stereotypes of hobos, the code they live by, parody vs. satire, how to pick your hobo name, wuxia kung fu movies, the closing of Toys R Us and so much more.

Writer Erica Schultz is an exceptionally cool woman with a deep knowledge of true crime, cults and serial killers. She came into comics working at Neal Adams' studio where she honed her skills at lettering, inking, writing and editing, was accepted into the DC Comics writers' workshop where she got to write a Hawkgirl story, has written part of Dynamite's "Swords of Sorrow" crossover, and comics based on the tv shows "Revenge" and "Charmed". Coming up she has her own crime comic "12 Devils Dancing" from Action Lab, as well as a "Daredevil" annual and a run on "Xena: Warrior Princess". She and Wendi talk about pleasing long time fans of these properties, ghost stories, kitties, women interest in true crime, and a lot more!

Sybil Danning is a goddess of 80s action film cinema. Statuesque and vivacious, she featured in such films as "Howling 2", "Battle Beyond the Stars", "Chained Heat" and "Reform School Girls". Wendi and guest host Brian Kirst of "Big Gay Horror Fan" have a fantastic time listening to her tell Hollywood stories about working with people like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Clint Eastwood, wrangling Klaus Kinski, the behind the scenes work of producing your own films, writing her new comic book "Ruger", and being a feminist icon. She conveys a wonderful positive spirit of encouragement!

Artist Tana Ford has carved out a name for herself in autobiographical comics, slice of life stories, mainstream Spider-man tales and historical narratives. Her style bounces around from the dynamic fun of "Silk" to map illustrations. In this episode she talks about Sean Gordon Murphy's mentorship program, the "bury your gays" trope, winning the Prism Comics Queer Press grant for her book "Duck!", gives her cocktail recipe for the Tanhattan, and tells some incredibly heartwarming and courageous stories from the history of the Boston Marathon.

"Sim-BEE-oat" or "sim-BUY-oat"? It is the 30th anniversary of Spider-man's gooey nemesis, Venom and with that comes a new movie and a new comic, written by Donny Cates with artist Ryan Stegman. Ryan Stegman is kind enough to join Wendi for a discussion of all things Spidey, what to expect from Marvel's "Fresh Start", the complexity of drawing webbing, his work on "Superior Spider-Man" and "Uncanny Avengers", the detail of his pencils and relinquishing control on inking, romance in "Spider-man" vs "X-Men", Wendi has another work story, and so much more!

Wendi gets superficial this week as she talks to Image comics creator, Jeremy Haun, about his book, "The Beauty". A startling tale of an STI that makes you beautiful for a while before some devastating side effects kick in, its a book that melds body horror, current politics, personal agency and police procedural. They also talk about his other project, "The Realm", a post apocalyptic, Dungeons and Dragons influenced tale, as well as writing love stories about sexy Asian men, Steely Dan, hat shopping with Ande Parks and so much more!

Back in the days of "Wizard" magazine, Wendi once won a competition to write an essay about her favorite comic, "Strangers in Paradise". Now she fulfills her teenage dream of talking to Terry Moore about the return of his self published sensation, where Katchoo and Francine are at this stage of their lives, how it fits in with the larger "Terryverse" with "Rachel Rising", what women helped shape his views and more.

Then she talks extensively with Caleb Alexander-Mckinzie of the "Southern Fried Geekery" podcast about their experiences at C2E2. They talk about all the parties and dog humping, what artists they spoke to and original pages were bought, and who the sexiest cosplay was. Share in their joy and memories!

Writer Eliot Rahal is the special guest on an episode that really jumps straight out of the gate with some speculation about alien life. He and Wendi discuss his current work on Valiant's "Quantum and Woody" and "Ninjak vs. the Valiant Universe", as well as the brand new shared horror universe, "Cult Classic" at Vault Comics. Rahal shares stories about his comedy days and cowriting with Donny Cates on "The Paybacks".
